Boys Over Flowers Season 2: Episode 3
Everyone seems to be staring at Ota when she receives another message saying that she is Tenma Hase’s fiancée and is a secret spy for Momonozono Institute after her father’s business Edo Quality went bankrupt.
Meanwhile, Haruto has a new lucky charm for himself and this time it is a little pig which is supposed to suck out bad luck from your life with its nose. Kaito rolls his eyes over it.
Ota’s friends confront her before the whole school and call her out for lying to them. She tries to justify herself but they are unwilling to listen. The rest of the students start bullying her and she runs away. On her way out, she bumps into Haruto who want to talks to her but she shows the message on her phone and asks him if exposing her was what on his mind right from the start. She asks him if he is happy now that she is exposed and he looks stunned at all the messages on her phone. Tears run down her eyes as she calls him a horrible person and runs away. Haruto tries to run after her but Kaito stops him saying that he has to act like the leader of C5 and not make any exceptions in peasant hunting.
Knowing that her mother will worry about her, Ota decides to not return home so soon and spends her time on a playground. She receives a video message in which she sees her mother being bullied by some boys of her school. Angry, she switches off her phone.
Issa and Sugi are surprised to know that Ota is Tenma’s fiancée. They wonder who was behind this expose and Airi says that it doesn’t matter as they have a peasant out of the school. Issa objects saying that it was a bad way to remove her from school and she screams that Ota is the one who is bad as she kept attending their school despite being poor. Haruto has nothing to say as he hangs his head in guilt which does not go unnoticed by Airi.
Airi then disses her minions for being too mild on Ota and orders them to punish her more severely.
Ota visits Tenma’s mothers’ grave and recalls promising Tenma’s mother of always being by Tenma’s side even after she departs.
In the present day, she apologises to his mother as she heads to Tenma’s office. She thinks to herself that Tenma’s step-mother had put the condition of having her study at Eitoku Academy till she turns 18. Now that her secret is out in the open, she will be peasant hunted tomorrow and will have to leave the school which will then nullify her engagement to Tenma. She calls Tenma and tells him that she is quitting Eitoku Academy. He asks her the reason behind her decision and she refrains from divulging any details. She then tells him that since she is breaking Tenma’s step-mother’s only condition for them to be married, he is no longer bound to her and will not have to meet her every fourth Sunday of the month. She tells him he is free to do whatever he wants and can date someone who matches his standards. Tenma is shocked but before he can say anything, his step-mother Rie intervenes and Ota quickly leaves.
Rie asks Tenma if she disturbed them and he says she did not. Rie grins to herself and in a flashback scene, we see that Rie had eavesdropped on their conversation and looked very pleased to know about Ota’s decision to break-up.
While working at the convenience store, Ota recalls how Tenma looked cool on hearing her decision and did not stop her at all. She thinks that her decision indeed was for the best.
Kaito informs Haruto about Ota’s peasant hunt the following day and Haruto looks rattled by the news. Kaito reminds him of their resolve to follow F4’s footsteps and uphold their school’s pride. He firmly states that Haruto should put Eitoku over the girl he loves.
At school, Haruto decides he does not have to copy Domyuji and can peasant hunt in his own way (Thank God!! Someone realises how twisted Domyuji was) and that very moment a student breaks an egg on Ota’s head. (Ouch!! That must have hurt the poor girl.)
Ota tries to run away but students collectively ambush her and then corner her. She is then dragged out of the school where Airi’s minions make a spectacle of her. She says she has come to school to hand in her withdrawal papers but no one really listens to her.
Her friends Asami and Kyoko are then asked to step forward and thrash her with a baseball bat. The girls look terrified so the bully decides to punish Ota himself. Haruto tries his best to rescue Ota but before he can intervene, someone else saves her. The moment the boy raises the bat to hit Ota, it is very dramatically stopped mid-air by Tenma. Tenma then skilfully bashes the three boys who had been bullying Ota. Haruto watches Tenma beat up the three guys single-handedly.
He checks on Ota and then looks up at Haruto and expresses his disgust at his ways of getting things done at Eitoku.
Airi intervenes and orders Tenma to take away the peasant Ota who cannot afford to pay donations. Just then, Kaito comes running to inform them that someone has donated 50 million on Ota’s behalf. Ota realises that it is Tenma who donated the money on her name and he says that he has decided to not hold back his feelings for her anymore and do as he pleases.
He then lifts Ota in his arms and warns Haruto from ever harming her again.
Airi opposes Tenma’s donation as she is adamant about having Ota driven out of the school. But Kaito tells her that had Tenma not donated the money, their school would have lost to Momonozono in the donation count. Kaito happily announces that Ota is no longer on their radar and Airi rolls her eyes in frustration.
With heavy feet, Haruto makes his way to the C5 den where he is surprised to meet Hanazawa Rui of the F4 group. (Oh boy! I LOVE Hanazawa Rui so much.)
Haruto tells him that everything around him is in a mess and that he does not know what to do. He asks him what Domyuji would do in such a situation and Rui tells him that considering how wild Domyuji was, in such a situation he would only pay attention to what is important to him.
Tenma has Ota admitted to a hospital and advises her to spend the night there to be safe. She is worried about her mother and he tells her he will speak to her too. She then asks him to take back the donation as she cannot accept such a huge amount from his parents and he clarifies that the money he spent was earned by him for effective management at work. She looks at him in awe and muses how perfect he is in everything. He then tells her that what she is thinking about him is wrong and that he does not feel tied to her because of his mother’s last wish. He apologises for never openly expressing his feelings for her. He asks her what he feels about him and she fumbles over her answer.
Sensing her discomfort he quickly changes the topic and leaves to allow her to rest. After he leaves she wonders why she couldn’t answer him promptly and tell him that she loves him too. We then see that Tenma, who left the room smiling enters the elevator fuming with cold rage. (Geez…. This guy and his step-mother are giving me the creeps.)
Taking a cue from Rui, Haruto decides to check on Ota and he arrives at the hospital where she is admitted. Getting all excited to meet her, he pushes the door and at the exact same time, Ota opens the door to talk to Tenma. Haruto’s hand then falls on her breast instead of gripping the doorknob. Startled, Ota tackles him with an uppercut which sends him flying to the floor.
He then dreams of Ota singing a song for him and then leaning in to kiss him as a gesture to thank him for visiting her. Just as their lips are about to touch, Haruto wakes up with a start and clutches his head in pain. Ota who is now dressed in her school uniform warns him of moving his head too quickly as it will pain him.
He then comes to his senses and quickly apologises to her for not stopping Airi in her ways of bullying her. He then grabs her hand and urges her to punch him as much as she wants as a way to punish him.
She pulls her hand back and he exclaims how hot he felt touching her. She tells him that she did doubt him at first but then seeing the extreme bullying tactics she knew it wasn’t his doing. Delighted to know that Ota knew it was wasn’t him, he hides under the comforter and says he feels so happy that he can even die of it. (Awwwwwww…. my main lead…how can you be cuter than my second lead?) She pulls the comforter off but he pulls it back saying he looks bad blushing and she smiles musing how odd a guy he is.
He offers to drop her home but she turns him down. He then gifts her his gold pig that is supposed to suck out all the bad luck in her life and she cannot stop feeling amused by his obsession with lucky charms. In return, she hands him the box of lucky rock stones she used to blackmail him with.
At school, girls mock Ota for her bento box and the donation Tenma gave on her behalf. Issa then intervenes and warns the girl from bullying Ota. Ota runs to thank him and he says that he is doing this just to make up for what an ‘ugly’ member of C5 did to her.
Airi confronts Haruto and he says that he is forgiving her this time but next time they will be done for sure. Airi is stunned to hear that the unforgiving Haruto has softened to such an extent that he has agreed to forgive her. She loses it and goes on a rampage at her home smashing everything within her sight.
Haruto visits Ota’s convenience store and Konno teases that he is there just to see her. Embarrassed, he quickly states that he is there to buy an eraser. Ota, who feels equally embarrassed, then orders him to fetch the eraser from the other aisle and he screams that he will do things at his pace, in his time. She taunts him for being a bum to be free. Konno catches on that point and asks if he and Ota would like to go out with her boyfriend and her. Ota wants to decline the idea but is afraid of what Haruto might say to Konno so she agrees to it.
They go to the batting centre where Konno’s boyfriend Mii shows off his baseball skills. For Konno’s sake, Ota praises Mii calling him ‘cool’ which Haruto takes notice of and sets out to try his hand at the sport. Being his first time ever playing baseball, Haruto spends the whole day trying to just hit the ball. Later in the evening, Ota is tired of seeing him relentlessly try to hit the ball so she brings him some water asking him to take a break. But he asks her if she really feels Mii is cool and she justifies that she was just trying to be nice to him.
Haruto, however, is determined to hit a home run and impress Ota which he eventually does.
He hands over the prize i.e. a pillow to Konno who jumps with joy. Ota cannot stop feeling amazed at how weird and different Haruto is and she tells him that this too is one of his good points. The word ‘too’ sticks in his head and he feels happy that Ota sees a lot of good points in him.
The two couples then go to a restaurant where Haruto feels utterly disgusted at the local favourite food. He almost blurts out at how the food looks like vomit but Ota stops him from speaking anything bad as it is a popular dish with the people in Tokyo.
Mii opens his mouth and Konno lovingly feeds him some food. Seeing this Haruto too opens his mouth but Ota refuses to feed him anything. Konno then says that she now gets it why Ota has been looking cheerful lately and that it is because of Haruto who has been visiting the convenience store for her. Ota feels embarrassed and denies it but Haruto cannot conceal his smile as he feels happy to know that Ota looks forward to his visits.
Konno then looks astonished at a pretty girl standing at the door. Haruto and Ota turn back to look at Airi glaring back at them.
Comments
Haruto my dear, how do you manage to be so damn adorable? I can’t believe I like Haruto more than I like the sweet and charming Tenma. Domyuji too was stupid and adorable but I never liked him because he was a bully. I hate bullies. So, Domyuji was never my favourite. But here, Haruto is not a bully. He may be stern with his policy of eliminating poor kids from the school, but he is not a bad person. He is just working towards maintaining the school’s reputation. His idea for doing so must be wrong but he still is not as vile as Domyuji. I’m am so glad he decided to not follow Domyuji completely and find his own way of doing things as the leader of C5. It was good to see him finally have some sense.
The hospital scene where he hides under the blanket when Ota shows confidence in him is just too cute. Actor Sho Hirano is nailing it as the stupid and naïve Haruto. I LOVE him for being such an amazing main lead.
Meanwhile, something is seriously wrong with Tenma and his step-mother. The way they behave with each other is very odd. In fact, Tenma and his step-mother Rei, both give me the creeps. Rei is clearly the negative character, so feeling intimidated by her is OK, but Tenma is creepy too. I am telling you he is not what he is trying to show. The clear evidence is the lift scene where he looks so displeased with Ota for not telling him that she likes him. I hope he is not a bad guy because I want to like him. However, judging by the way the story is developing, I won’t be shocked if he turns out to be the villain.
I like how Ota is matured and resilient. Her banter with Haruto is the cutest. She feels guilty of not being as perfect as Tenma which is why she is slowly drifting towards the almost lunatic Haruto. I am loving every episode of this dorama and I hope it continues to be this interesting.
