Exciting K-Dramas To Watch Out For in May And June 2022

The first quarter of 2022 boasted of some interesting K-dramas of which ‘A Business Proposal’ was my favorite. The first half of the second quarter i.e. May and June has some seemingly good dramas lined up for broadcasting. Of all the dramas scheduled for release here are a few I am most excited about.

The Sound of Magic

Release date: May 6

Episodes: 6

First up is the fantasy drama ‘The Sound of Magic’ starring my favorite Ji Chang Wook along with Choi Sung Eun and Hwang In Yeop. The drama is based on the webtoon ‘Annarasumanara’.

This musical drama is about a young girl named Yoon Ah Yi who aspires to become a magician but the tight financial condition of her family coerces her to juggle school and part-time jobs. Tired of the daily struggle, she hopes to grow up faster so she can become an adult and have better control over her life. One day, she happens to meet the magician, Lee Eul at an abandoned theme park. He comforts the troubled Ah Yi as he makes her believe in magic once again.

A clip in the trailer reminded me of the K-drama ‘Goblin‘. The clip is of the girl being attacked by a man and Lee Eul comes to her rescue. In Goblin too the female lead is physically attacked and Goblin comes to save her.

Will this show be as spectacular as the ‘Goblin’?

The show gives a very ‘Aladdin’ meets ‘Peter Pan’ vibe probably because of the magical elements involved in the show. I’m glad that Ji Chang Wook (JCW) is experimenting with roles. He looks uber-cute as the whimsical magician. This hairdo suits him and I am beyond excited to see him in this mysterious avatar.

Apart from JCW, I was also excited to see Hwang In Yeop after ‘True Beauty‘. Sadly, he hardly appears in the trailer. I’m not sure of the scope of his character. I just hope he has a good role because I’m really looking forward to seeing him in this show.

Woori The Virgin

Release date: May 9

Episodes: 16

‘Woori The Virgin’ is the Korean adaptation of the American show ‘Jane The Virgin’. It has Im Soo Hyan and Sung Hoon in leading roles.

Oh Woo Ri is a young girl who has decided to remain chaste until she gets married. One day, she visits a hospital for some medical examination and ends up accidentally undergoing a medical treatment that impregnates her.

I haven’t watched ‘Jane the Virgin’ but from what I see in the trailers, this show looks funny. I’ve seen actress Im Soo Hyan in ‘Gangnam Beauty’ and she did not impress me much. I hope through this drama she changes my opinion.

Have you watched a Sung Hoon drama before? If yes, then give me a high five as you and I both know why this show is going to be interesting. If not, then let me tell you that he is super HAWT.

That’s him below in that black leather jacket.

He may have played similar roles in ‘Noble, My Love’ and ‘My Secret Love’ but I loved him in both the shows. From the trailer, his character again feels similar to these two dramas. But honestly, I don’t care. I like Sung Hoon’s rom-coms. So, bring it on.

Why Her?

Release date: June 3

Episodes: 16

‘Why Her’ starring Seo Hyun Jin and Hwang In Yeop looks like a teacher-student cum revenge drama.

Oh Soo Jae is a successful lawyer on her way to becoming one of the topmost attorneys in the country when a twist in a case ruins her dreams as she gets demoted at work. She reluctantly takes up her new role as a professor at a local law school and vows to make her way back to the top.

At the university, she meets a student Gong Chan who seems to weaken her resolve to get back with the law firm.

I have been warming up to noona romance lately. However, teacher-student romance is still not my thing. I like this fresh pairing though. The dramatic trailer manages to generate enough intrigue to make you want to watch it.

Actress Seo Hyun Jin can work up amazing chemistry with anyone. She looked fab with the much younger Yang Se Jong in ‘Temperature of Love’ so I have no doubt that she will look great with Hwang In Yeop too.

Hwang In Yeop clearly has relatively more role in this show than ‘The Sound of Magic’ so I’m looking forward to it hoping he will do well.

Three different dramas, all with a good star cast. I have high hopes for each one of them. Let’s see if these shows live up to the hype and excitement.
