Written Update: Episode 9
In the hospital room, Polina confesses of despising Mr. Panin for the last 25 years. She tells him she did everything to keep him happy and never asked him for anything in return. She tells him that its time for everything to become hers. A shocked Mr. Panin rises to grab Polina’s jacket while coughing blood. She brushes him off leaving him gasping for breath when Nicolai enters the room and Polina pretends to help Mr. Panin with the oxygen mask. Nicolai rushes to Mr. Panin who is struggling to tells him that Polina ruined his life before he flatlines.
At Panin cosmetics, Igor is trying to grasp Nadya’s situation when Rita walks in. Igor tells Rita that he knows Nadiya for the past several years and that she will not do something of this sort. Rita tells him that she has seen the CCTV footage and that she was the only person in the office that evening. Igor walks in to check the CCTV footage himself when he receives a call that disturbs him. Rita and he then rush to the hospital. (Damn! What timing to receive a call!)
At the hospital, Rita and Igor are grieving over their father’s death while Polina mentally converses with Mr. Panin asking him how it feels to see his kids cry. She laments that her son has cried more than these two as he never had the love of a father or a mother. It was because of Mr. Panin’s refusal to raise another man’s son that she had to leave her son alone. But not anymore as it is her time now. She then pretends to pass out as the doctor holds her.
At Pan cosmetics, office Irina receives the news of Mr. Panin’s death and she informs Grandma Tamara about it. Seeing Tamara sigh, Lucia asks her the reason for it when she tells her to inform Nicolai about Mr. Panin’s death. Lucia says that Nicolai had called to tell her that he will be visiting Mr. Panin. Grandma Tamara surmises that Nicolai must be knowing of Mr. Panin’s death and she leaves the hall saying that she wished she was dead before hearing the unfortunate news of Mr. Panin’s death.
At Mr. Panin’s funeral, Polina seems to be crying inconsolably. Rita tells her to control herself and gives her some medicine to feel better. Rita tells Polina that people have arrived outside and that she can rest in the room for some more time. Polina spits out the medicine as soon as Rita leaves the room and reminds herself that the drama has just started.
Boris walks in to pay his condolences to Mr. Panin when Igor stops him at the doorway. Rita asks him to behave himself as their father had approved of her relationship. Igor tells her that her father would have never approved of Boris had he known his reality. Boris tells Igor that he will leave the funeral but not his sister and that he had promised Mr. Panin to take care of Rita and he will surely keep his promise.
Polina calls Oleg and promises him all the happiness that he was kept away from since his childhood and while she’s speaking she senses someone approaching her room. She quickly grabs a picture of her husband and pretends to be mourning. Tamara and Nicolai walk in to speak with Polina. Polina tells Tamara that she loves Mr. Panin immensely and that all this is very difficult for her. She tells her that she has loved him for the past 25 years and despite everything she has done for him he remembered his first wife in his final moments. However, Nicolai recalls Mr. Panin’s last moments where her cursed Polina for ruining his life and looks at Polina suspiciously.
Tamara gets Polina out of her room and Rita is by her side to console her. Igor walks out of the hall revulsed by her charade. He thinks to himself that Polina was with his father during his final moments and he suspects her of having something to do with his death. He swears not to spare Polina for her misdeeds. Polina cries hysterically as Mr. Panin’s coffin is taken for burial as Igor walks silently behind her and Rita.
At the bereavement dinner, Rita cannot stand the sight of Nadya and orders her to leave. She tells her that she couldn’t be by her father’s side in his final moments because she was busy solving the problem Nadya created. Igor tries to calm Rita down when she suddenly slaps Nadya across her face and screams to never forgive her. Nadya runs out of the hall and Igor follows her.
Igor manages to catch up with her and requests her to go back with him. She tells him that Rita isn’t wrong because she thinks of Nadya as a traitor. She says things will change only after she proves herself innocent and asks him to go back to his family.
At home, Olya tells her mother that a ‘bad’ man once shouted at Nadya and asked her for money. She tells her that he had kidnapped her and she was rescued by Nadya. Lucia talks to Nadya when they are alone and tells her that she is aware of what’s happening in her office. She assures her that Nicolai will help her with everything but Nadya refuses to take his help as she says she can manage things for now and will seek his help only when things go beyond her control.
Ira sees Igor’s lawyer Valentin and asks him if he saw the CCTV footage of that evening. He tells her that he was unable to do so to which she promptly offers her edited copy saying that she obtained it from the security office. He accepts the copy. Valentin hands a copy of the notarised will to Igor along with a letter for him. Igor reads the letter in which Mr. Panin has expressed regret over being a bad father to him. He mentions that if he becomes his father in his next birth, he will play a game of football every Sunday with him.
Nicolai and Tamara are on their way back home when Nicolai pulls over to stop at someplace. When he returns, he gives Tamara a beautiful ring and she looks highly pleased with his gift. (I though he bought the ring for Lucia. How nice of him to pamper his mother. I guess Tamara has a lot of money ;)) She asks the reason for his sudden gift and he says it is just to make her happy.
Polina is dressing up to be some place when Igor berates her for putting up a show of mourning his father’s death. She tells him to stop lecturing as he still hasn’t become the owner of the place. He tells her to leave the house as his father has left her enough money to buy several houses for herself. She says that she will not do so as the house belongs to the three of them now. She advises him to concentrate on the business rather than spying on her. He admonishes her for getting decked up like as if she is going to a party. He scornfully tells her that her expensive clothes and perfume can never be able to conceal her inner filth.
Nadya receives a call from lawyer, Valentin who tells her that he has gone through the CCTV footage and that there was no one except her in the office that day. Nadya refuses to believe his claim and decides to seek someone else’s help. She waits for Maria at the cafe and begs for her help. Maria is reluctant as she has been already been in trouble because of Nadya before. But Nadya assures her that she hasn’t done anything wrong and that if she is proven innocent everything will get back to normal and they will not have to cancel their product launch. After much thought Maria finally agrees to help Nadya obtain the CCTV footage.
Polina gifts Oleg an expensive car. An ecstatic Oleg lifts Polina in his arms oblivious to the person discreetly clicking their snaps. Polina and Oleg drive together in the car. At Pan Cosmetics office, Igor is instructing Zora on the phone to follow ‘them’.
