SSCPL Face Serum Review: Provides Extra Hydration And Lasting Radiance

I never understood the need for a face serum till the last winter gave me a good knock on the head. Since I have oily skin I had never invested in a face serum before. However, the last winter in my city was exceptionally harsh. Damn you climate change!! And my skin became too flaky. No matter how much moisturizer I applied it still felt and looked dry. After doing some research online, I found out that face serum can help in such conditions. And, the very next day I purchased SSCPL’s face serum. I’m glad I found it because it really helped me when my moisturizer flatly refused to co-operate with me. 🙂 Before you jump to conclusions, let me add that a face serum is not a replacement for a moisturizer but an aide for deeper hydration and skin restoration. A face serum is usually lighter than a moisturizer so it is quickly absorbed by the skin. You have to apply it before using a moisturizer to see good results. Currently, the temperature in my city has increased and my oily skin has suddenly decided to become parched in patches on my face. So now my ‘combination’ skin is oily in the T-zone and extremely dry in the rest of the face. So what do I do now?

SSCPL Face Serum Review

Name: SSCPL Face Serum

Price: ₹300/- for 100ml

Ingredients:

What does it claim?

The SSCPL Face Serum contains collagen, vitamin A, green tea and witch hazel that help in skin firming, reduce wrinkles, impart even skin tone and eliminate excess oil, respectively. The grape seed present in the formula tightens and lifts saggy skin while the aloe vera fights against blemishes. Lastly, the carrot extract helps prevent sun-induced aging.

How to use?

First, cleanse your face with your regular face wash. Onto your damp face apply a pump or two of the product, as required, and gently massage till it gets absorbed by the skin. Once dry, follow up with your regular moisturizer.

Does it fulfil its claim?

The white creamy serum comes in a transparent plastic bottle with a green cap. The serum can be dispensed through a pump.

Though creamy in consistency, the serum is very light and is quickly absorbed by the skin. It has a mild perfume like fragrance which I personally like. Once absorbed you can see a slight glow on the skin.

The serum is supposed to provide instant hydration, which is what my skin needed badly at that time I purchased it. As instructed, I used to apply this serum on damp face and let it dry before applying my moisturizer. After applying the serum on damp and dry face I can safely say that applying on the damp face is a better idea because not only does it spread easily and evenly over the skin, it also seeps into the skin faster and provides more hydration. A serum is said to aid a moisturizer and not replace it. On some lazy days, I have used the serum without a moisturizer and it has worked still fine for me. Of course, it is too light to replace a moisturizer but yes it is indeed effectively moisturizing. Now that the temperature has risen in my city, my skin has returned to be the oil tanker that it is, but only in parts. However, I still use this serum as it is light enough for my oily skin and hydrating enough for the dry patches on my face. I follow it up with a gel-based moisturizer which helps to keep my skin in check. The serum provides much need moisture without causing a breakout. Also, the best part about it is that the bottle lasts really long. I have been using this serum since January and I have finished only 1/10th of it. I’m sure it can easily last me another six months.

Just one pointer – the serum does not suit all kinds of moisturizers. During the winter, I used a medicated moisturizer prescribed by my dermatologist and noticed that it did not sit well with the serum. Similarly, I used to apply a skin brightening cream by the same brand and that too did not do well with this serum. This could be because my skin is sensitive. I currently use this serum under a gel-based moisturizer and it works amazing. However, when you buy this serum make sure you do a patch test with your regular moisturizer only to see if the combination suits your skin.
