Ishq Mein Marjawan Review: This Thrilling Love Story Is Highly Engaging And Engrossing
Show Title: Ishq Mein Marjawan
Channel: Colors TV
Timings: Monday to Friday 7:30pm
ColorsTV has launched a new romantic-thriller, Ishq Mein Marjawan starring Arjun Bijlani and Alisha Panwar. The show follows Euripides quote, ‘Stronger than lover’s love is lovers’ hate. Incurable, in each, the wounds they make’. Bijlani plays Deep who is a rich businessman and falls for a young girl named Aarohi. Panwar plays the sweet and simple Aarohi who is actually a serial killer on the loose. I watched the first two episodes of this suspense serial and I loved it. Here is its first episode written update and review.
Ishq Mein Marjawan (2017)
Episode 1
The show starts with a mysterious lady who we will later know as Arohi (Alisha Panwar), dressed in black walking through the corridors of a hotel. Aarohi inconspicuously enters a hotel room where a young girl is listening to music. As the girl senses Aarohi’s presence she turns around and Aarohi quickly stabs her with an injection that makes her unconscious. When the girl wakes up she finds herself taped to a cupboard. She looks at Aarohi who sits right in front of her with a sinister grin on her face. The girl shivers in fright as Aarohi expresses her contempt for a girl like her who does not respect relationships. Aarohi says that she does not deserve the ring on the finger as she has cheated on her partner and forcibly yanks it out as the girl screams in pain. The girl begs for forgiveness and promises to never repeat her actions but Aarohi is not in a mood to forgive and stabs the girl with a sharp knife. The victim’s blood splatters over Aarohi’s face and clothes and she flinches repeating that she hates blood. She then returns home and quickly takes a shower to get rid of the blood.
Aarohi’s bhabhi (sister-in-law) scolds her for having a shower in the evening when the temperature is below freezing point. But Aarohi looks unperturbed as she pays no heed to her warnings. When she finally walks down to her bhabhi she looks suspicious of Aarohi having a bath late in the evening and Aarohi smartly brushes off her concerns. Bhabhi is a slacker and she cunningly hands her work to Aarohi and leaves.
The police reach the location of murder and start their investigation. This is the third murder in the city and the police are astonished to see the similarities between the three murders. All the three victims were taped and brutally stabbed in the face to the point of complete disfigurement. The murderer has also left behind footprints which are size 10 in men’s shoes. They are left baffled by this murder mystery by a serial killer and just then enters officer Lakshya (Vineet Raina) who is in charge of the serial murders in Shimla. As Lakshya walks in the room he notices the open bathroom and instructs the policeman to check for fingerprints on the shower knobs as it is very likely for the killer to have cleaned himself before leaving. The policeman laughs it off saying that every murderer is smart enough to wear gloves to avoid leaving behind his fingerprints. Lakshya retorts that every officer is smart enough to check for tiniest of evidence that can link them to the culprit. Lakshya then further examines the room and states that the killer seems like a crazy female. The policeman corrects him that the killer is a man and not a lady as they found footprints of a man’s shoes. Lakshya then corrects him that the murderer is undoubtedly a woman as he can still sniff her perfume’s fragrance in the room. (Hahahhaa. Kuch bhi!!! She left the room loooooooooooooooooong back and he can still smell her perfume with so many people still around in the room.)
Next, we see a young girl being followed by a stranger as she drives her car listening to the police announcement of a serial killer being on the loose. She is petrified but her stalker and halts her car and begs the stalker to leave her alone. The stalker is business tycoon Deep Raichand (Arjun Bijlani) who actually saves her by exposing the goon hiding in her car’s trunk.
He tells her that he saw the man enter her car while she was in the café but before he could raise an alarm she left with her car which is why he had to follow her to ensure her safety. She thanks him profusely and recognizes him as the famous bachelor of Shimla. She asks him for a photo which he politely declines before leaving his assistant behind to help her with the goon.
Deep’s assistant is surprised that Deep looks unaffected by the gorgeous young girl and wonders if he will ever find someone who will move his heart.
Deep is at a restaurant when he sees Aarohi’s reflection in a glass as she picks up her stuff from the ground that she accidentally dropped. He is so smitten by her that he follows her like a lost puppy.
The show’s enchanting theme song plays in the background as Deep follows Aarohi through the market. For him, the world freezes and Aarohi becomes the only person in focus for him. Aarohi too walks through the market oblivious to Deep walking after her enchanted by her beauty. (I don’t blame Deep here. Aarohi really looks bewitching in that sexy red outfit. This girl truly has a captivating screen presence.)
His trance is broken and he is brought back to reality by his assistant who calls out to him. Deep looks annoyed as he loses the subject that captivated his interest. His assistant then teases him for looking lost like as if he bumped into a ghost and Deep tells him that he has finally found the girl he wishes to spend the rest of his life with. (Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? That was quick.)
Aarohi has a minor argument with her bhabhi and she leaves to meet her friend for dinner at a restaurant. Deep is also present at the same restaurant and happens to be seated at the table adjoining Aarohi’s table. Aarohi and her friend fight to get the first bite of the cheesy dips and she accidentally drops the cheesy bread on Deep.
She apologises instantly and even offers to clean his jacket. He, however, looks happy to have met her again and tells her that he does not forgive people but punishes them for their mistakes. He declares that her punishment is a date with him the next day at Riverpoint at 5 pm. Aarohi looks unimpressed by his straightforwardness and walks off after rudely declining his request. Despite Aarohi’s clear disinterest in him, Deep is hopeful that she will surely accept him soon.
Aarohi’s friend runs after her calling in her mistake of rejecting the most eligible bachelor of Shimla who owns a chain of restaurants. Aarohi says she has no interest in dating a rich arrogant guy like him and would rather see someone who is simple like her and anyway her life agenda is something else.
First Episode First Impression
This is the first time in years that I’ve watched two episodes back-to-back of an Indian daily show. I have done FEFI for several shows before but have never managed to go beyond the first episode of any show. I did like a few shows like P.O.W. – Bandi Yuddh Ke and the very recent Yeh Un Dino Ki Baat Hai but due to lack of time, I could never follow up on these shows. I always decide to catch up over the weekend but always fail to do so. Ishq Mein Marjawan compelled me to watch it like no other show. It could also be because I caught up on this show late so I did not have to wait another day to watch the next episode as it was already available, unlike the other shows that I wrote about immediately after their telecast. I think I should do this more often and watch serials only after two to three episodes have been uploaded online. What do you think?
The show looks good and its music resolves my complaints with TV serials not coming up with good OST’s. The two episodes left an impact on me because of its gripping plot and story-telling and I will urge you to give this show a try.
What looked nice?
Alisha Panwar is gorgeous. She has beautiful eyes and a strong personality. She brings her character to life effortlessly. Her expressions are bang on and I LOVED her performance. She is such a strong actress that I feel the show can move on easily and for long as she seems like a star performer.
Arjun Bijlani looks his part of a smart businessman. However, he did not have much role in the first episode but I am sure his character will grow in the following episodes as there is a lot more to Deep Raichand than what meets the eye for now. Actor Vineet Raina also looks cool as the intelligent and observant officer, Lakshya.
The production quality of the show is good. And its theme song ‘Ishq Mein Marjawa’ is mesmerising. You can hear the song on YouTube here. The video is not of the best quality but you can still hear the song clearly. Ah!! Loved this song so much. (I have heard it almost a hundred times by now.)
Overall the show looks good. Its premise is something different if not unique. It is a thriller with really interesting characters and backstories.
What did not look nice?
Nothing at all. I LOVED the first two episodes. I hope this show does well because it looks something worth watching.
Ishq Mein Marjawan’s fresh and complicated plot makes it an interesting break from the regular daily soaps. I would highly recommend this riveting show.
