An Incurable Case of Love Review: This Warrior Chick Will Warm Your Heart With Her Love For The Devil

May God bless fans of Japanese doramas who put in lots of effort and creativity to create drama videos on YouTube. It is through such videos that I discover new dramas and films. It is through numerous videos on Sakura and Dr. Tendo’s love story that I felt interested to watch ‘An Incurable Case of Love’ aka ‘Love Lasts Forever’. This show helped me push through an 8-month long drama slump and a 2-year long Japanese dorama gap.

This dorama follows the story of a nurse who is madly in love with a doctor and will do everything she can to make him fall for her. A simple love story amidst some serious medical cases is the perfect premise for those looking for some lighthearted but meningful romance.

An Incurable Case of Love (Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo) (2020) (10 Episodes)

Nanase Sakura (Kamishiraishi Mone) is at the crossroads of life where she has to decide what she wants to do in life. Before she can make a decision she happens to meet Dr. Kairi Tendo (Satoh Takeru) who helps her save the life of a woman who collapses in front of her. Awestruck by his skill at saving a life she believes him to be a good man and falls hard for him. She resolves to meet him again someday so she can make him fall for her. She studies hard and qualifies to become a nurse in the same hospital where Dr. Tendo works as a cardiologist. On her very first day, she professes her love for him which he turns down ruthlessly while mocking her. From the hospital staff, she learns that Dr. Tendo is known as the ‘devil’ because of his need for perfection and his rudeness. But this does not deter her from pursuing him and she earns herself the nickname of ‘warrior chick’. She continues to work hard so Dr. Tendo can see how dedicated she is as a nurse. Her efforts pay off as the ‘devil’ slowly softens and starts to like her.

Let’s weigh this painfully cute drama on our drama beam balance and see if the warrior chick and her devil are worth our time or no.

Good Weights

I enjoyed watching ‘An Incurable Case of Love’ because…

…it is a cute love story. Based on a Japanese shoujo, it has all the clichés you usually find in such dramas but that is what makes it so enjoyable. It does not have major plot twists or shocking revelations but is still engaging. The story flows smoothly while both our respective characters show decent developments. Even the supporting casts have their minor storylines, which is also interesting.

…even though not entirely focused on the medical aspect the drama still offers some good medical cases which will keep you invested. The patients belong to different age groups and come with not just health problems but also a background story of their own. Our leads may not get attached to their patients but are empathic just the way the medical staff is supposed to be.

…the leads share great chemistry. The love story of Sakura and Tendo is not new. We have plenty of ‘rude boy falls for sweet girl’ dramas but what makes this show special is the two leads. Mone and Satoh. I have seen Mone in a rom-com before and I like Satoh anyway. So, watching them together was really easy. When together they complement each other the way a couple should. Their age difference adds to the beauty of their chemistry. They look their part of a mentor and mentee.

…Mone and Satoh both act really well. Sakura may be a clumsy character but Mone is not clumsy even slightly. She plays her character sincerely and does not overact. Or even if she does it is very subtle. The character of Sakura is similar to Kotoko of ‘Mischievous Kiss‘. She is bubbly, cheerful, helpful, and a nurse with a lot of scope for improvement. But Sakura is not immature. Her lively spirit can bring a smile to your face. And I think it is mostly because Mone is so naturally cute.

What do I say about Satoh? His stoic look makes him all the more attractive. Tendo is the icy perfectionist who has had his heart broken in the past hence the tough exterior. It is so much fun to see him slowly melt the icy coldness and warm up to his lady love.

My only gripe is his jibes at Sakura. I wish he was a little less rude. But I think as a doctor, he needs to be stern or the nurses might start slacking at work.

Bad Weights

I did NOT LIKE ‘An Incurable Case of Love’ because…

…uhmm… Nah! I liked it a lot. I did have a problem with Sakura being a clumsy nurse at first because I personally find that unacceptable. You cannot fool around in a hospital just to make your heroine cute. But the writers eventually resolved it by making it a part of her character development so I was fine by the end of it.

No bad weights weighing this drama down indicates how much I loved it. Even with our leads working in a medical setup, it is not really a medical drama so do not watch it for that. Its main focus is the love story developing between Sakura and Dr. Tendo and you just have to enjoy it for just that.

I give ‘An Incurable Case of Love’ 4 out of 5 rating. This show is about a determined girl winning the heart of the man she loves. If you like fluffy romances, then do watch this one too. It has a lot of lovely moments especially when Dr. Tendo starts falling for Sakura. They make an amazing couple and will make you want to fall in love.
